    Welcome everyone!

Although there is still more than a week till the end of the month (at the time of writing), there is news to be shared.

As was stated in last month's sitrep, the wiki has entered a transition phase mostly full of redesign and restructure. As such, editing has stepped up and now there are multiple projects, smaller and bigger ones. What they have in common is that they are considerably big to end in a very short time and therefore they are rather unfinished: every project is slowly but steadily advancing.

These projects are now visible for everyone on the main page dashboard, where I subsequently leave notes about how everything progresses. While there is no indicator of percentiles or days showing how long it takes to compl…

    Greetings readers!

This is the second monthly report of 2017. Let's see what has been done and what is in plan for March.

The quotes for Stronghold Crusader 2 opponents, including those in DLCs, have arrived!

These pages follow a similar format to previous quote pages, showing the triggers, as well as the quotes themselves in both text and sound format. The extraction and uploads took about 10 days to complete, while additional time was required for polishing mistaken lines and clearing up wrong references. The sounds are also available for download when clicking on individual links.

Crusader 2 opponents also got their own character pages cleared up and injected, now all available for read.

As seen in the main page notice, a core restructure is…

    Dear Readers,

This writing is more of an announcement than a discussive blog post. Handle the contents below with care.

The site has seen a lot of new changes since January. However, the small changes have been done so far and a complete revamp is needed, particularly in the page structures. As a result, most of the content pages are going to be grabbed and made into another format. The motivation is version separation.

It is well-known that the Stronghold Wiki has no unified format regarding pages and contents. There are layout guides, but they are still very loose in regulation. Lots of buildings, units and other stuff have a buttload of information cramped together in very long articles. Navigation is almost impossible in the editor side. …

    Hello everyone!

This post is a little geeky, detailing how I managed to find and extract quotes for the lords and other units for Crusader 2. The topic deserves a mention in my humble opinion, as it is quite a task to pull off yet very useful.

Until Stronghold Legends, the sound files were stored in plain soundwave files, which are easily opened and listened to in an ordinary media player. However, with Stronghold 3, it became sorted into packages and wrapper files to conserve space and give better durability to their data (so that, no one can edit and make them corrupt by accident). With the proper utilities, the sound files and other core game data can be decrypted and exposed.

    I used the following programs:

    • the v-maker program from the Stro…

    Greetings everyone!

Today is the first month since my announcement of revitalizing Stronghold Wiki, in 2017. This initial period has been considerably productive, so let's break down to what has been accomplished.

As usual, the wiki has been added more content. Most notably, characters and their information has slowly, but surely been uploaded and supplied with articles on their character, strategies and background. Viewers can now read more about the Templar and the Princess, as well as a ton of new Crusader walkthrough pages, thanks to the outside editors!

Lots of cleanings are also done and the small introduction of navbox templates and other updates are slowly incorporated in the site. To name a few: Crusader 2 units and characters, simpl…

    Welcome all!

The new year kicked in and so did the wiki become one year older. I am gonna talk about the future of the wiki and some opinions/explanations of the silent 2016 (this is a blog post, after all? :D).

The previous year saw little increment or additions on the wiki. There is two topics I would like to discuss: personal effects and the evolution of the Stronghold franchise.

I am undergoing a weird maturing throughout my life, which is obviously normal in everyone's life. However, I got really carried away with vision and motives - the persistent pursuit after joy and good feelings have slowly taken over my rational mind. As a result, I slowly turned away from tasks and duties that I could not find the success or joy within anymore: m…

    Greetings, my liege!

Today's article is going to cover Stronghold Crusader 2's stories and missions. Let us get started with it!

Since Stronghold came out in 2001, every game in the franchise so far has put an emphasis more or less on the story. Stronghold and Stronghold 2 are notorious for their unique storylines and memorable characters.

Storytelling in Stronghold is the bread and butter of the singleplayer. There are about 20 missions covering the story of the Boy and his aids removing Duc Volpe and his clan from their reign all over England, which really deserves a mention. Between each mission, a storyteller was reading the story aloud from a scroll, while the actual episode's characters were having dialogues in front of a table and a fi…

Hello everyone and a Happy New Year!

It has been long since there has been happenings last on the wiki. In the meantime, we had numerous fixes and additions for Firefly's latest game, and it is high time we had a discussion about what Crusader 2 did to enrich our RTS-experience.

We asked the community about Crusader 2's new content since June 2013, and according to the poll, the biggest interest for Crusader 2 has been the new units, followed by story & missions and by a tiny victory, the new characters. Let's see the new units first!

The unit system of Crusader 2 revolves around soft counters, where the presence of one particular unit type doesn't render its countered unit useless (in the case of it being true, we talk about hard counters). …

On September 23rd, Stronghold Crusader 2 was released, not long ago! I really waited for this game and the trailers+spoilers whispered that the game would be more groundbreaking than Crusader, stating the countless new units, new AI characters and more content. Let us see how is Crusader 2!

Crusader 2 is very different than its predecessor. It is very fast-paced and is less forgiving for the player's mistakes. Also, strategies that are/were common in Crusader 1 don't really work. This is because of two things: revamped economy and revamped battlefield mechanics.

The economy now no longer orientates on gold but goods. Everything sells for very low gold and most buildings have a huge cost, so it should be chosen wisely how and what to build. 1…

Yesterday (06.12) was the very day when Firefly Studios showed us a 40-minute gameplay video of the upcoming Stronghold Crusader 2 game featuring CaptSkubba. Everyone knows that expectations are high and Firefly therefore made a statement that they would try to "make the game with the ultimate Crusader feeling". From the viewpoint of a casual player, I am going to share my opinions in the next few paragraphs.

    A screenshot from the game:

Crusader 2 looks promising from a distance. It has detailed and nicely done objects, buildings and units, everything feels lively.

Units and workers have complete animations, which feel fluent. The Templar Knight moves very slowly in his heavy armour, while archers can run without any armour, making movements …

    WARNING: Long post below!

Today the Wiki editors dared challenge the almighty Crusader, SergiuHellDragoon and his mercenaries! I (as the yellow Lord, named Scaraßeon) had my comrade Fang on my side, who proposed the challenge. We faced Sergiu and his temporary ally and pro-player, Alex. We had a match and rematch, which I am going to review in this post.

The first match was played on the map "A Friend Indeed". Each player had 2000 gold and was evenly spaced out on the map. Me and Fang got the bottom-left corner, while Alex got the top-left location and Sergiu the eastern spawn. Sergiu also initiated a 10 minutes no-rush and the ban of catapults and trebuchets. The players' spawning locations came with advantages and disadvantages:

    • Me and Fang spawned …

    WARNING: Long post below!

Stronghold: Crusader is a very fun game to play, particularly when you have a hard and challenging enemy. I have played against a dreaded player, who quickly showed me that economy is not everything. Spending your gold, setting up your strategy and adapting quickly is a hard task, especially when the game turns into a war of attrition and strategy.

Have a relentless turtler/counterattacker enemy and your situation is even worse. An enemy, who turtles heavily, uses heavy troops to deflect any attack attempts and builds heavy defense lines, just to gain a comfortable position from which he constantly counterattacks, in the hundreds. This enemy was Fang, co-editor of this wiki.

The game was played on a custom 3-player …

In Stronghold 2, it is very hard to use siege engines against ground units either because of their firerate or bad area coverage. However, they can be made behave so much differently, if you use some tricks. This article covers two particular siege engines.

Catapults have a great firerate, but if they find mass missile units well in range and no protecting cats are nearby, they are done for. Many players just select all their catapults in one group then have them fire at a large circle. That's good enough, but if the enemy manages to set up a huge concave, catapults take more shots much quicker and their numbers will quickly diminish. You can use two tricks:

    • Control groups: divide your catapults into many small groups (6-8 in a group will do…

Yes, and a large one indeed. If you didn't find out what is the point of the title, play a bit of SH2 and against the Queen. Take an estate and let her take it back. You can eventually hear her quotes if your defenses prevail. If you play against more Queens, you may hear it sooner. But I couldn't wait for this quote to arrive and stood up against 7 Queens, a bit of challenge. A very bit of challenge, which evolves into a big pressure, war of attrition, desperate survival in the beginning; get contained and slaughter endless swarms of enemy raiders, coming by the hundreds.

I played on the same map as I fought on last time against the Kings. But these were Queens instead, all of them in a big alliance of evil. 5000 gold was handed out for ev…

As the title suggests, I extended my interest towards challenges and switched to SH2, inspired by old pal Hypno-disc.

The King is a seemingly tough character, seen in both SH2 campaigns. Is that true to Kingmaker as well? Well, it isn't.

The King is the very turtling AI opponent. It builds up a good defense and patrols his territory heavily, but never ever attacks. After he built up his defenses, he switches to harassment mode and sends groups of a few pikemen and some catapults every now and then. There is no human player in the world who couldn't dispose of these groups: pikemen are the worst offensive unit (only better than spearmen and armed peasants). Catapults? You just shoot them down before they could even retaliate. Take 7 Kings and…

It is always hard to decide how to open and which strategy to follow in Crusader.

You want to have some units to defend, but also a good economy to start expanding and fuel your war industry. In 2,000 gold games it is even harder to decide what to do, as it fairly depends on your opponent's plans. You want to counter their rush attempts and win the game by successfully defending, or go to mass industry mode and whittle down your enemy's gold stocks and stockpile, thus crippling his economy.

I like to go into the late-game, however I like defending first. Gold is your vital resource when it comes to spending money on units and goods. You want to track the following aspects:

    - Raw materials: this includes mainly wood and stone. Wood is used for…

It's another battle communique, how surprising.

As I have written in my previous post, I tried out how hard it is to fight 7 Saladins, after I have taken out 7 Wolves, which was quite a challenge. My expectations became real: it is MUCH harder than the Wolves.

Many count Saladin as the Wolf's Arabian counterpart, with weaker troops and better economy. It is no doubt. However, Saladin is a very offensive lord, compared to the turtling and passive Wolf. He packs very big firepower and brutal units in a punch and swarms them group after group to overwhelm the victim. It is just awesome. Take 7 Saladins and have seven times the fun.

I took Close Encounters and played with 2000 gold evenly for all players, but this time I chose the middle left pos…

    Hello folks!

What is the title referring to? Well, I just thought of Crusader and I remember many people telling that 7 enemies against the human player, is a more than unfair challenge for everyone. One friend had tried 7 Caliphs, on Youtube I have seen 7 Wolves beaten by a user. Now I tried and tested my skills against 7 Wolves in the same alliance, in a somewhat equal situation and tried to survive the first few minutes.

This encounter occured on Close Encounters, the well-known map, where everyone has a decent quantity of iron, stone (even a small tile of pitch) and greenery. 2000 gold were handed out along with a basic starting set of goods for everyone. I started in the eastern position.

The first moments of the game was perhaps the har…

    Hello folks,

This is the time, when I feel I must head to another way in making this blog. Since I have joined this wiki (October 2012, but actively editting since November/December), I have posted so far war communiques from the numerous multiplayer games I have fought, most of which alongside my friend, Michael (aka Hypno-disc under the flags of Sir Ironside and King Richard III. Now, I think it's high time I contributed something else.

I will use the blog to fulfil the role of a blog: writing about articles/themes I change in the wiki and coming up with new ideas. Not long ago we came up with a timetable with Michael and Elfansoer, a skilled engineer forging new devices for this site. This timetable is loosely kept up with, as it is hard …

Long time since a communique was released, but finally here is one. Our quest was victory, but we highly failed at it, because our Lord betrayed us and did not support us. The enemies made great use of this fact.

We were building up in a long peace time, succeeding in pushing the enemy back to their own estates. However, our cluster attack died, when a mass group of knights struck us and we were forced to retreat, losing many siege engines and cats. During the fierce fighting, a small commando of assassins killed my ally, which was a great loss. Honour production was set back by an accidental move of the lord, resulting in a loss of mass and feast bonuses. Even the advanced micromanagement of catapults, cats and the small number knights cou…

    If a player wishes to change their crest, the process is very simple;

First go to Computer and click on the c:/ drive. After this go into the Firefly Studios folder and go into the Stronghold 2 folder and then go itno the crests folder. Create a new folder and call it 'Spare Crests' to keep the old game crests safe.

Rename any crests you want to replace like this: crest, crest (2), crest (3) etc... and place them in the spare crests folder.

Simply replace the crests with the crests you have chosen. I saved some pictures of British flags to use in the game.

IMPORTANT: THE IMAGE MUST BE EXACTLY 128 PIXELS X 128 PIXELS OTHERWISE THE IMAGE WILL BE TOO BIG TO FIT ON THE FLAG.

    Here are my examples:

It's been a long time since I had the last multiplayer game. But now, I'm back, with the amassing raw materials and economy! This fight proved to be a long lasting, but enjoyable one. Although one opponent had to quit very early, we had to track themselves and work our way in the enemy territory. The power of fire also showed us how devastating it is in the form of burning carts and pitch fire. Boiling oil somehow missed its presence. Let's see today's shots:

It's been a while since I had the next memorable game with my true good friend. We had the usual constitution and the same map and this time, it was proven that SH2 is not only economy and troops. Both sides used prevention, but two different forms of it. Our side decided to take control over the central area and move forward as possible, while the other side wanted to set up a huge defense of hoarded square towers, archers and a prepared special task force.

As it turned out, our strategy was the winner, as we had easy targets and proper preparations. Both of us used its own force to move out and tear down the enemy lines stone by stone. Here are the shots:

The Fallout game series has always been a unique and critically acclaimed game series. Critics and users have both praised the game and given it generally positive ratings and reviews. With the release of Fallout New Vegas, Bethesda proved that it can still do what it does better than any other game developing company. However, not all reviews to the highly anticipated Fallout New Vegas were as positive as the near universal acclaim which Fallout 3 achieved. However, Fallout New Vegas did become the highest selling Fallout game, despite its slightly lower ratings.
