 The black monk is a unique melee unit recruited at the cathedral.

Description

Monks are weak but confident fighters, who trained themselves to protect their church and religion. They wield combat staves that deal very high damage, making them useful against light troops and even macemen or assassins. Their drawback is their considerably slow movement and their health, as they can quickly die to a few arrow shots or repeated melee strikes. They can be recruited at a cathedral for a low amount of gold.

Usage

Monks see little usage due to their stats, as neither their speed, nor their health makes them ideal for an open battle. Instead, they are useful in defenses or as a last resort because of their low price and decent combat power. They can be used to seal off breaches and protect the Lord, making them a cost-efficient and particularly effective defense force.

Similar to Spearmen, Monks run when they detect opposing foes in aggressive or defensive stance to said detected opponent. This movement is much faster than their manual control. This helps with using them in a defensive role. In combat they can hold off opponents to a rather surprising degree, including Macemen. While incapable of winning one on one with the help of defensive missile units Monks should be able to win the one on one.
