— Mordred, when calling the Sorcerer

Mordred (also known as Medraut in French) is a character and AI opponent in Stronghold Legends.

Description[]

"Bitter and resentful at what he regards as his lost birthright, Mordred thinks of little else, other than gaining his crown. He frequently draws on the powers of his mother 'Morgan le Fay' to support him in his obsession."

Background[]

Mordred is the son of Morgan le Fay (who is half-sister of King Arthur) in the Arthurian legends. He serves as one of the main antagonists in the story, betraying King Arthur whenever he can, as Arthur has denied claiming the throne from him. He wields supernatural powers, using them to steal the throne from Arthur and eventually fights him in a battle, where he manages to fatally wound Arthur, but he is killed by Arthur's sword.

Castles and Strategies[]

Mordred builds a compact diamond-shaped castle with cramped defenses. He has two gatehouses to provide smooth access and he erects two lookout towers with two engine towers on the sides, each stationing a dragon harpoon. Crossbowmen and men-at-arms guard the walls, while some fire drakes and man traps with assorted pitch ditches and moat provide a decent close-range defense.

The economy of Mordred is built around extensive weapons production and food production. He manufactures loads of equipment for his barracks troops (except for archers) and maces for profit. He builds all three farms Evil can build and he also adds breweries to gain some taxes. His pantry is supplied with pigs and eel.

Mordred is a slow attacker, but he makes up for it in frequent raids, making extensive use of the Sorcerer's tower. Early on he likes to pressure with squads of archers and Saxon warriors, while later on he adds bats to target groups of soldiers, single stake hurlers against buildings, and even the Sorcerer to wreak havoc with its fiery attack and Meteor Storm ability.

To sieges, Mordred brings a large number of his signature unit, the werewolf supported by a little contingent of men-at-arms and crossbowmen. Mordred produces cats from the siege camp to protect his troops from projectiles, catapults, trebuchets and a battering ram in an attempt to level buildings and the castle. A werewolf launcher is also added to launch werewolves in the heart of the enemy castle from high distance.
