The polar bear is a heavy melee unit in Stronghold Legends.

Description

Polar bears are massive beasts, trained for combat in the frozen North. These fearsome bears are outfitted with thick iron armor to blunt arrow and blade, resisting attacks with high efficiency. Polar bears can use their immense strength to maul units and buildings alike.

The polar bear is trained at the Ice Tower.

Information

Polar bears are expensive special units that can form the bulk of an Ice player's frontline. They can go toe-to-toe against even the heaviest units and even frost giants, as they are immune to knockback. They can also take a lot of punishment and do not go down easily to concentrated fire. Polar bears are also quite fast to move on the battlefield, easily evading slower troops and moving out of burning ground.

The polar bear's endurance and strength also allows it to attack sturdier structures, even walls and towers. Their bulk allows them to march up against a defense line and start tearing through, being able to withstand even blows from traps and dedicated wall defenses. Understandably, the polar bear can only be matched by prolonged missile fire or a larger-sized infantry group.

While having excellent combat capabilities, the polar bear comes with a few drawbacks. Being a foot unit, it is helpless against flying units, as well as it has trouble catching up to faster units.

Tactics

• When using polar bears to create a breach, beware of the Ice Queen and the ice mirror, as these can freeze polar bears with their attacks.
