The gibbet is one of the three torture devices in Stronghold 2 that doen't require a torturer to operate it. This is where the criminal has been sentenced and locked in a cage, which is then suspended in the air. When the sentence is over, the criminal goes back to their job, having hopefully learned their lesson.
