An empty pot

An Oil Tipper is simply an engineer that received a pot of burning oil from an oil smelter. The process is simple: after hiring an engineer from the engineer's guild for 30 coins, he is instructed to man the pot. He will run back and forth from the stockpile, filling the pot with pitch. Further engineers told to man the pot will receive a pot of oil. They are best placed on gatehouses, and nearby towers. They require direct instruction to drop their oil. There are 2 different oil defenses:

  • In Stronghold 1 there is an Oil Smelter (requires 10 iron to place). Four engineers are required to operate the smelter. One boils the oil and runs for more pitch, three fill their buckets with oil and can be placed in strategic places.
  • In Stronghold 2 the Smelter is removed, but replaced with the Oil Tipper , which replaces the Stone Tipper as well. It needs to be manually tipped, only costs gold and take a while to recharge. They light up quite a patch of ground.
