Stronghold 2 (SH2) is the sequel to Stronghold released April 2005, introducing lots of gameplay elements. Stronghold 2 is rendered in 3D which makes unit movement easier and gives a more realistic feel for the game. It has several view modes including an architect's view which looks down on the castle directly, allowing for easier placing of buildings.
Story
It is medieval England, the King of England mysteriously disappeared and turmoil reigns throughout the country. You control Matthew Steele, a page of the loyal knight Sir William, who is determined to find the lost King. As you promote and gain combat experience, you will soon be recognized by your enemies, most notably by the warlord Lord Barclay. You can choose to either join William and their group to take down the usurpers or join Barclay to make use of his clan's influence to get to the throne.
New content
- Stronghold 2 features 10 AI characters (and two additional one in the Deluxe version), being completely different from the adversaries of Stronghold.
- Honor is introduced as a secondary resource. It is used to recruit troops, purchase estates and promote on the ranking ladder.
- New mercenary units: axe thrower, outlaw, berserker, Pictish boat warrior and thief, and an additional barracks unit, the armed peasant, along with numerous new siege engines.
- Criminals can be rehabilitated by the torture system. If they turn into a criminal, they must go through the justice system while their job is halted. They must be reinstituted to society by torture or sentenced to death and replaced.
