Stronghold Crusader Extreme

Stronghold Crusader Extreme (SHCE) is an re-release of Stronghold Crusader, released in June 2008. Not much has changed gameplay-wise, but the sprite limit has been increased to a mighty 10000 troops/peasants. There is also the addition of two new buildings and special 'Powers'. All adversaries and missions from the Warchest edition of Stronghold Crusader have been implemented in the game.

PowersEdit

The power bar replenishes over time and contains an ascending series of buttons to press. These, starting from the lowest are:

  • Arrow volley
  • Heal troops
  • Summon small group of spearmen
  • Summon small group of engineers
  • Get 2000 gold
  • Summon small group of knights
  • Rock volley

Using a power diminishes the bar, the extent on this depending on the level of the power in the list.

Stronghold Crusader Extreme is usually much more difficult if you do not use the powers, so not using them at all is a good idea if you want a challenge.

OutpostsEdit

These take the form of mercenary post outposts or barracks outposts, creating Arabian and European units respectively. The outposts spawn units that are free for whichever human or AI lord it belongs to.

Usually if controlled by the AI, units will simply head directly to an enemy castle when enough of them have gathered, however a few of the units, if they are the same type of unit as those usually produced by an AI lord, may be sent by the AI into their castle to boost their defensive troops until a normal Crusader AI attack occurs.

With each attack wave, some troops spawned by AI outposts may be left behind defending the outpost. This tends to result in a great increase in the number of troops later in the game (if AI outposts are left undisturbed). The attack waves from outposts also tend to get bigger later on in the game, sometimes enough to form an almost continuous line of attacking troops.

The rate of spawning during the game can be changed for each outpost on custom skirmish maps, as can the type of units spawned.
