— Vlad, when attacking a common enemy

Vlad Tepes (also known as Vlad the Impaler, Vlad Dracul) is a character and AI opponent in Stronghold Legends.

Description[]

"Intelligent and shrewd, but ultimately insane and totally without compassion, Vlad will stop at nothing to achieve power. His grasp of the dark arts, and his readiness to explore them, is without equal."

Background[]

Vlad Tepes was a Wallachian ruler in the 15th century. He was a very confident ruler but also cruel, negating any opposition and removing his enemies with brute force. Vlad used to torture his enemies before executing them by pulling into a stake (hence the name Tepes). Vlad's cruelty became so feared that the people believed he was in alliance with the devils and the evil. Today, Vlad's character appears as Dracula, the bloodthirsty vampire in literature and fantasy.

Castles and strategies[]

Vlad has a small castle with tight defense. He has a pentagonal castle surrounded by pitch ready to be ignited, while utilizing some dragon harpoons against flying targets. Engine towers and lookout towers overlook the area, stationing archers everywhere. Archers take care of the base defense near braziers, while Vlad himself is protected by some hellhounds and archers. Sometimes a bat or two is seen to patrol around the castle.

Vlad's characteristics include severe harassment right from the outset. He employs the nastiest selections out of all AI lords, such as hordes of demons setting everything alight, vampiric creepers to convert defenders and ultimately a black dragon to fry his enemies.

Vlad tends to get up his economy and attack force very early compared to other computer lords. He attacks with a moderate army of archers, hellhounds and Saxon warriors. He uses catapults protected by cats and mantlets from the siege camp, accompanied by a handful of laddermen and a battering ram. While not particularly dangerous, Vlad can quickly send a new army after the previous one is defeated and thus his "steamrolling" technique can prove effective in the long run.
