The wardog is a special canine trained to fight in the several Stronghold games.
The wardog is a warhound trained for defense. Aggressive and brutal, it attacks everyone that gets near. Wardogs are held in cages, in packs of 4. They return to their cages after the enemy has been removed or their targets got out of range. They may also seek for additional targets afterwards.
They are best used for defensive purposes, as they cannot be controlled, so they are best used as a first or last line of defence to easily take out anything that may be attacking. A maximum of ten wardog cages can be placed by one player.
Dog cages make a good substitute if one cannot afford to have a sustainable amount of melee units. They are considerably cheap and since they are placed instantly, they can get to a location much faster than trained troops from the campfire.
- In Stronghold Crusader, wardogs attack only hostile soldiers. They used to attack friendly soldiers in v1.0, but this was later removed in v1.1.
